From Hillary’s Site “Target our commodity payment programs so that family farms — not corporate farms — are the key beneficiaries. Hillary favors closing loopholes that disproportionately benefit wealthy corporate farmers and those who do not directly take part in the operations or management of their farms. Hillary also supports establishing a permanent disaster program to assure producers aid will be there when they need it most. ”

I have seen this twist of a program, first hand.  In my community in NY I watched a conglomerate business buy out the local farm families, and then do nothing with the land except raise buffalos.  Why?  Because they could get a subsidy from the government for keeping part of the land ‘dormant’.  And, they got another subsidy for raising buffalos.  What an easy way to make money.

That is not why these programs were first introduced.  They were supposed to help the family owned farms, so that families who had been in farming for generations, could stay in it.
