Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic Party, who says he was slow to pick up on charges of sexism because he is not a regular viewer of cable television, is taking up the cause after hearing an outcry from what he described as a cross-section of women, from individual voters to powerful politicians and chief executives. (emphasis mine)Is Dr. Dean kidding me? He was slow to pick up on charges of sexism (notice he still has not picked up on the sexism - the same sexism that apparently nobody other than Katie Couric has been able to discern) BECAUSE HE IS NOT A REGULAR VIEWER OF CABLE TELEVISION?!
Dr. Dean, seriously, right after you resign, we need to find you a doctor, a good psychiatrist. Because you are quite clearly mad as a hatter. First of all, charges of sexism were not being leveled on cable television, sexism was occurring on cable television. Second, I don't even get cable TV in my house, but all one had to do was walk into any airport or bar where there was a TV playing and I assure you the most casual hearing of the coverage included stunningly obvious sexism when it came to Senator Clinton. Third, the sexism in the media was in all varieties of the media: newspapers, magazines, non-cable television. I trust that as chairman of the D.N.C. there are SOME news sources you look at regularly, eh, Dr. Dean? Fourth, you didn't even have to look at a news source, all you had to do was listen to yourself talking to reporters and making dismissive comments toward Senator Clinton that smacked of sexism toward her.
Dr. Dean, after you resign, we will get you the help you so clearly need. In the meantime, spare us your "investigation" of the media. Inspect yourself, sir, inspect yourself.
